2024 Pickaway County 4-H Camp:
Pickaway County 4-H Camp Dates: Thursday July 11 - Sunday July 14
Camp is for members who have just completed the 3rd grade through age 14
Full time participation is required.
The camp is located at Tar Hollow Group Camp in Tar Hollow State Park.
More details for 2024 camp will be posted as soon as they are available.
To register: Complete the registration form & health statement and return it with your payment to the Extension Office by May 22, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
Thanks to the Pickaway County Foundation & the Gary Family, Pickaway County offers 4-H camp scholarships of $100 each for up to twenty 4-H members. Any 4-H family that qualifies for or receives public assistance is eligible to apply.
Directions:
- From Adelphi take St Rt 327 for approximatley 7 miles then turn RIGHT into Tar Hollow State Park at the large sign.
- Follow the road past the Park Office and General Store.
- When the road Y’s (there is a 4-H camp sign at this turn) continue to the left.
- Almost immediately you will turn left down onto the residential camp road. There is a sign that says Resident Camp and sometimes has a 4-H Clover on it.
Drop Off and Check In July 11, 2024:
Camp check in will take place from 3:00-4:00 pm. Do NOT arrive more than 15 minutes early. As you come into camp, follow the instructions at the bottom of the hill. Cars with boys should park behind the lodge, then enter through the Nature Porch for your health assessment and check-in. Cars with girls should park below the flagpole, then come to front of the lodge for their health assessment and check-in. Parents may then assist their child carrying their items to their cabin. Counselors will be ready and waiting at the cabin to greet your child.
Pick Up, Check Out and Going Home July 14, 2024:
Camp check out will take place at 10:30 am. Do NOT arrive more than 15 minutes early. Do not exit your car until instructed to do so. ALL CAMPERS must be signed out by the adult taking them home. If you need to restrict who picks up your child, you must do so in writing.
What to Pack:
The following is a list of items to bring, and items that are prohibited:
- Theme related items to wear for fun.
- Sleeping Bag and/or Blankets, Sheets and Pillow
- Comfortable Clothing for 4 days. (jeans, shorts, t-shirts, socks, underclothes, pajamas, extra outfit for evening as we get hot and dirty during the day)
- Jacket, Sweatshirt or Raincoat
- 2 pair of Tennis Shoes – the hills are steep & shoes get wet
- Swim Suit – one piece preferred and swim towel
- Bathroom Kit-soap, shampoo, deodorant, towel, toothbrush, flip flops (for shower only)
- Flashlight
- Sunscreen, insect repellent
- Plastic Bag-for wet or dirty clothes
- Approximately $10 - $15 for canteen, please bring in $1 and $5 denominations. There will be no charge for crafts in 2024.
Do NOT Bring:
- Roller shoes, open-toed shoes or Flip Flops (Except for showers)
- Cell Phones, Ipods, game, watch or electronic devices of any kind.
Medication and Illness:
- ALL medication must be turned in to the nurse. Medication must be in original container with label. Put the container in a ziplock bag. Write the child’s name on the bag.
- If a camper will be bringing an EPI-PEN, they should bring 2 and alert the nurse at check-in. Camper should bring a cinch bag or pack to carry one EPI-PEN with them at all times. The nurse will keep the second EPI-PEN with her. The camp will not have any EPI-PENS on hand.
- Staff, campers, counselors with a fever of 100.4 or higher or any other illness symptoms may not attend camp.
- If someone at camp is suspected of having a contagious illness, they will be isolated and a parent/guardian will be contacted to pick them up immediately ☹
Miscellaneous Items:
- Campers are asked to practice good hand washing while at camp.
- No Large Group Photo will be taken this year; however, we will take group photos and will post them following camp.
- NO ELECTRONICS may be brought to camp. Campers found with cell phones, iPods or similar items will be sent home.
