Cloverbuds are 4-H members who have reached the age of 5 and are enrolled in Kindergarten as of January 1 of the current year. When a child is age 8 and enrolled in 3rd grade as of January 1 of the current year, the child is eligible for regular 4-H membership.
Cloverbuds focus their attention on activity-based lessons and non-competitive activities. The 4-H Cloverbud program is designed as a nonformal approach to developing the confidence, social skills, decision making abilities, subject matter knowledge, and physical skills of Kindergarten through 2nd grade youth. Cloverbuds take part in a blend of activities and opportunities specially designed for their age level. Cloverbuds are not eligible for competitive events, residential camps and/or projects designed for regular 4-H members. Cloverbuds are not to hold club offices, but they are encouraged to participate in club meeting activities, such as leading the pledges.
4-H Advisors working with Cloverbuds are encouraged to utilize the Ohio 4-H Cloverbud Program Manual - Series I and Series II.
Cloverbud Events
Cloverbud of the Day Coloring Contest - This year the Junior Fair Board is hosting a Cloverbud of the Day Coloring Contest. All 4-H Cloverbuds are eligible to enter. Simply complete this coloring sheet or pick one up at the Extension Office or Skill-a-thon Judging. Submit the completed sheet to the Extension Office by June 12. The Junior Fair Board will randomly draw 5 coloring sheets. Those five winners will be assigned one day at the fair where they will be the Cloverbud of the Day. They are asked to be at the fair on their day, attend the Cloverbud activity at 10:00 am, and will be introduced at a livestock show. Winners will be notified prior to fair and should attend the opening ceremonies on June 16 where they will be introduced and receive their Cloverbud of the Day sash.
Cloverbud Daily Activity at the Fair - Cloverbud activities will take place at the Pickaway County Fair 10:00am on Monday-Friday. All activities will take place in the Activity Tent outside of Heritage Hall. Cloverbuds will receive a special ribbon each day they complete the activity.
Cloverbud Show 'N Tell - This event will take place each day of Skill-a-thon from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Cloverbuds simply show up, meet with Junior Fair Board members and share about something they did or learned as a Cloverbud this year. There is no need to sign-up or bring anything. If Cloverbuds have an item or a Cloverbud book they want to share, they are welcome to, but it is not required. All Cloverbuds who participate will receive a special 4-H ribbon.
