All Market Steers and Market Dairy Steers are required to attend weigh-in on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. For this year, the weigh-in will take place at the Ross County Fairgrounds at 344 Fairgrounds Rd, Chillicothe. 4-H and FFA members/parents must bring steers and dairy steers to the weigh-in to be eligible to show the steer(s) at the Pickaway County Fair in 2019. All steers must be dehorned and castrated before December 22.

There are many changes coming for 2019 and beyond. One confirmed change is the fair schedule. Animals will move in on Saturday, June 15. Steers will weigh in on Sunday, June 16 at 1:00 pm. The Junior Fair Beef show will take place on Wednesday, June 19 at 8:30 am. As we receive confirmed updates from Senior Fair Board and the Livestock/Sale committee we will do our best to share information with our 4-H advisors. We encourage you to also follow the Senior Fair Board’s Facebook page, Pickaway County Fairgrounds.

For the Pickaway County Fair: Exhibitors can tag a maximum of three animals for each specie plus an additional family animal for families with multiple siblings. (This is a change in definition for family animals for steers from 2018.) One or two steers may be shown. Only one steer will be eligible to sell individually through the sale ring at the Junior Fair Sale. The other steer will be sold at “packer bid” price or taken home through the Livestock/Sale committee’s take-home program. A Junior Fair participant may sell only one animal through the sale ring each year. If members are planning to show more than one market animal, it is important to realize that only one will be eligible to sell through the ring.

For the Ohio State Fair: The Ohio State Fair continues to utilize EID tags and hair follicle samples. The process is completed and submitted by the exhibitor. Your 4-H Educator (Joy) or FFA Advisor must sign your completed registration that must be received at the Ohio State Fair office by January 15, 2019. Only one EID tag may be utilized per animal. Members who are interested in participating in the Ohio State Fair must contact Stacey French at the Ohio State Fair at 614-644-4049 or by emailing at s.french@expo.state.oh.us to have their packet sent to them. A standard tagger may be used for the EID tags.

Should you have any questions, be sure to call the Ohio State University Extension office at 740-474-7534 or contact a member of the Junior Fair Livestock and Sale Committee. For emergencies on the day of weigh-in, call Jeff Wippel at 740-404-1148.
