>>>>Click here for Fair Kick-Off Parade Rules and Registration Form - Due in the Extension Office by June 15.

IMPORTANT FAIR INFORMATION ....

  • The Senior Fairboard will not be holding a Junior Fair work day in 2008, but would encourage the 4-H clubs to do their own individual service projects at the fairground.  Some ideas are:  paint trash cans, clean showers in the coliseum, touch up the paint, wash the curtains, weed and plant some of the flowerbeds, wash and iron the Grange curtains, wash the 4-H banners in the show areana, clean the livestock barns.  Any interested 4-H club should contact Valerie Cross at 477-1130.
  • The theme this year for the 4-H fair booths is "I pledge my health to better living".
  • For members taking breeding sheep projects:  due to a ruling that there will be no intact male animals exhibited in the sheep and goat shows, ram lambs will no longer be eligible for show at the fair.  Please inform your members of this change if they were planning to exhibit ram lambs.
  • For members taking pygmy goat projects:  due to the fact that the pygmy goat show at the fair is a production (breeding) show, there will be no classes for pygmy wethers, as these animals cannot be used for production.  We understand that we have members who are raising pygmy goats as pets and this ruling was not brought to our attention until after the project enrollment deadline.  We are working to create a 4-H project judging experience fo the pet pygmy wethers and are cooperating with the senior fairboard to create an appropriate junior fair experience for those involved.
  • Dairy Beef Feeder Weigh-In.  This will be on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Once again, Doc Brown will be available to dehorn, castrate, and vaccine the animals.  He will not be charging any specific amounts, but would appreciate a donation from the member based upon what they feel the service is worth to them.
  • Breeding Rabbit Tattooing and Turkey Pollorum Testing.  This will occur on Monday, May 19th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Show Arena (same time as the Market Rabbit Tattooing).  This will be done by Doc Brown and the His Hands 4-H Club.  Any breeding rabbit which needs to be tattooed can be brought in.  All turkey projects are required to be brought in for their pollorum testing.  This is mandatory and will not be repeated.  If the member does not attend this session, they will need to contact their own personal vet and have the testing done prior to the fair.
  • Poultry Check-In and Chicken Pollorum Testing.  This will be on Sunday, June 22.  There will be a tent setup in the parking lot to the east of the fairgrounds where the check-in will occur.  If any member does not have pollorum paperwork for their chickens, they will be required to come to the tent between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon to have the tests performed.  For those that have their pollorum paperwork, we will be announcing when they may come to the tent to check in their poultry projects.

Rule approved by the Pickaway County Senior Fair Board..10/08/07:

Any Junior Fair awards presented at the Pickaway County Fair are to first be reviewed by the appropriate committee (s), OSU Extension Office, Junior Fair Board or Senior Fair Board.  The award must then be approved by OSU Extension and the Senior Fair Board.
